Introduction

African Relief Committee (ARC) in partnership with International Organization of Migration ( IOM) implemented project RRF 24 100 ES to provide emergency shelter support to households affected by displacement and floods in Eldian, Alferdous, and Shiaria localities, targeting 1,500 households—1,000 IDPs and 500 Host Community households . the project funded by USAID BHA African Relief Committee aimed to ensure immediate access to basic shelter solutions, reduce vulnerabilities, and strengthen community resilience. The report captures the monitoring and evaluation findings to assess the project’s relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, impact, and sustainability.

Overall Goal

The project aimed to ensure immediate access to basic emergency shelter solutions, reduce vulnerabilities, and strengthen community resilience.

Objectives

1-To provide emergency shelter materials to 1,500 households.
2-To mitigate the impact of displacement and flooding on affected populations by ensuring access to safe
shelter solutions.
3-To enhance community capacity for response and resilience to future emergencies.

Key activities

ARC conducted introductory meetings and established project committees, identified beneficiaries, and shared
the scope and objectives of the initiative.
Beneficiaries registered and verified based on vulnerability criteria.
Additionally, 1,500 ES kits had successfully distributed, and 75 demonstration shelters constructed to support
training on shelter construction.
To ensure long-term usability of materials, the project provided training on fire and termite prevention,
involving local experts.
Throughout the process, the project prioritized vulnerable groups, such as female-headed households, the
elderly, and persons with disabilities, ensuring equitable access and support.
This comprehensive approach is expected to significantly improve living conditions and resilience for the
affected communities.

Impact and Beneficiaries' Feedback

The IDPs and Host Communities expressed immense gratitude to ARC, IOM, and USAID-BHA for their collaborative efforts. Beneficiaries highlighted the significance of this assistance in improving their living conditions during a period marked by displacement and environmental challenges. The project is not only delivered essential shelter kits but also demonstrated a strong commitment to standing alongside the Sudanese people during times of hardship. Beneficiaries acknowledged the kindness and unwavering support provided by USAID-BHA, IOM, and ARC in addressing the needs of the most vulnerable populations affected by ongoing conflict and floods in SUDAN and particularly East Darfur State. The Emergency Shelter Kits distribution project has made a substantial impact in enhancing the resilience of affected communities. The project targeting the most vulnerable groups and providing training for long-term use of shelter materials, this initiative has significantly alleviated hardships and strengthened community coping mechanisms for future emergencies.
